PREGNANCY

Informed Choice

Midwives believe that every person has the right to be the primary decision maker about their own care. Midwives encourage you to fully participate in the planning of your own care, and care for your newborn. They allow enough time during your visits for meaningful discussion and for your questions to be answered.

BIRTH

Home or Hospital

Midwives are there for you during your birth, no matter when, where, or how long it takes. If necessary, midwives access emergency services and collaborate with other health professionals. You can plan to give birth at home or in hospital.  Homebirth is available to all healthy low risk pregnant people.

POSTPARTUM

Continuity of Care

Your postpartum period will be supported by a Midwife you have grown to know and trust throughout pregnancy and birth. Midwives visit you and your newborn in your own home in the first week after birth. They continue to provide care to you and your newborn for at least six weeks after birth.

Savanna Boyle RM

Solo Midwife

Over my career to date (7 years of Full Time Practice) I have valued and loved working as a Solo Practitioner and Member of a Team. Both bring depth and meaning to the work I am blessed to be doing. Solo Practice serves to remind me why I became a Midwife.

Like many Midwives I was drawn to birth from as far back as I can remember.  My first birth, a baby calf with my Big Sister Noreen. I thought I would pursue Medicine until a Canada World Youth Exchange program to Benin, Africa changed everything.

My counterpart whom I was instantly bonded was pregnant. I loved and protected her like a Mama Bear. My host Mother in Benin also happened to be a Nurse-Midwife.  It wasn't until almost a year after my return to Canada I discovered Midwifery was an option.

It is a true honour to serve Mothers and Families during this pivotal time in their lives. Walking alongside as consultant, guide and advocate.

When asked where I am from I do not have a straight answer. I was born in the Yukon, raised in Whitehorse, Smithers, Williams Lake and Nanaimo before adventuring across Oceans, trained in Ontario, practiced in Alberta and now back to the Coast with my Family.

I believe it matters how we welcome the next generation into the World.
